Binghamton Mets 2015 Game Notes
Binghamton Mets (73-61) at
Reading Fightin Phils (78-56)
(Double-A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies)
RHP Gabriel Ynoa (9-8, 3.83) vs. RHP Ben Lively (8-7, 4.22)
Tuesday, September 1, 2015 - Game #135 - Away Game #69
FirstEnergy Stadium - Reading, PA - 6:35 PM
LAST GAME: Steven Matz threw 5.1 scoreless innings on Major League rehab, but the B-Mets coughed up a late lead in a 6-2 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils on Monday at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Fightins erased a two-run deficit with six runs off Adam Kolarek and Jon Velasquez in the seventh and eighth innings. Jake Thompson went seven in the win. Reading clinched a playoff berth with the victory.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Gabriel Ynoa takes the ball for his 23rd start of the season and first career game against the Fightin Phils. Ynoa last pitched in relief following Steven Matz's six scoreless innings against Erie on Wednesday. Ynoa won his last start, going six innings and scattering eight hits against New Hampshire on August 21.
READING STARTER: RHP Ben Lively makes his 24th start of the season and first against the B-Mets. Traded from the Reds to the Phillies this offseason, Lively comes off a no-decision against Bowie on Thursday. The righty from Pensacola, FL allowed three runs on three hits over five innings.
MAGIC NUMBER UPDATE: Trenton's 4-1 loss to New Britain on Monday night dropped Binghamton's magic number to clinch a playoff berth down to four. The B-Mets are bidding for their third straight postseason appearance.
ANOTHER CHANCE TO PARTY: After clinching a postseason berth on Monday night, the Fightin Phils can secure the regular season division title with another win against the B-Mets during this series. The teams each play 141 games this season and one more Reading victory over Binghamton secures the tiebreaker in their favor.
BATTERED BULLPEN: The B-Mets bullpen has compiled a 5.48 ERA in the last seven games. Last night's damage of five runs raised the pen's season ERA from 3.51 to 3.62.
RIVERA KEEPS IT UP: TJ Rivera extended his hitting streak to a season-best eleven games with another two-hit performance on Monday night. Since providing the only hit in the nightcap of a doubleheader in New Hampshire on August 22, Rivera has hit .409 (18-for-44) with five multiple-hit games. Rivera has strung together three straight two-hit games. It's the longest hitting streak by a B-Met since Gavin Cecchini hit safely in 11 straight in early July.
BACK IN THE LEADOFF SPOT: B-Met second baseman LJ Mazzilli has hit in the leadoff position in 13 consecutive games in Gavin Cecchini's absence. The Connecticut native had not hit in the top spot prior to this recent stretch. Mazzilli is hitting .260 with a .327 on-base percentage and five runs scored hitting first.
POWER OUTAGE: Brock Peterson launched eight homers in his first 47 games with Binghamton, a stretch that included a grand slam in his first game. The slugger has hit one homer in his last 30 games, a two-run shot against Altoona on August 11. The long ball was the 200th of his pro career.
ONE LAST TIME...FOR NOW: The B-Mets embark on their 14th and final regular season road trip of the season. The club has gone 38-30 away from the Southern Tier this season.
MOVING CLOSER: Josh Rodriguez collected two hits on Monday and now has 993 hits in his 10-year professional career. The veteran infielder reached a milestone last week when he belted his 100th career home run against the SeaWolves on August 26.
SAY GOODBYE: Steven Matz and Erik Goeddel both completed their Major League rehab assignments with the B-Mets and returned to New York.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their four-game battle against the first-place Fightins on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Tyler Pill gets the ball against LHP Joely Rodriguez.
