Altoona Curve News Release

ERIE, PA - After three and a half innings of Tuesday night's contest in Erie it appeared as though the Altoona Curve would cruise to their second consecutive win against the SeaWolves. Erie had other plans though as the SeaWolves rallied for 11 straight runs to erase a 9-1 deficit and come away with a 12-9 victory over the Curve.

The Curve shot out of the gates scoring in each of the first four innings. In the first inning the Curve got the scoring started with a two run home run by Jim Negrych. In the second outfielder Jason Delaney led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a single by Jamie Romak.

Then in the third inning Altoona's offense really got going. The first six Curve batters all reached base with Jonel Pacheco driving in one run on a single, Delaney bringing home two more runs with a single, Romak again brought Delaney home this time on a double and then Hector Gimenez singled to plate Romak. The Curve would score five runs on six hits matching season highs in both categories.

In the fourth inning it was Pacheco again, blasting his fifth home run of the season. The solo shot put the Curve on top 9-1.

It was Erie's turn then as the SeaWolves began to battle back in the bottom of the fourth with a two run triple by Shawn Roof shortly followed by back to back RBI doubles by Max Leon and Ryan Strieby and just like that the Curve lead was cut to 9-6.

In the seventh the SeaWolves struck again scoring one run on a Joe Tucker single and then two more runs scored on a Leon single and the score was then tied at 9 at the end of seven innings.

Roof continued a great night at the plate when he came up with the bases loaded in the eighth inning and drilled a triple to right field to give Erie their first and only lead of the game at 12-9.

All 18 players that started the game for the two squads recorded at least one hit as the team's combined for 21 runs on 31 hits. Delaney finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Altoona and Roof finished up 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead Erie.

Game three of the four game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night. RHP Mike Crotta (3-2, 4.74) will get the start for Altoona (16-35) and Erie (30-20) will throw RHP Alfredo Figaro (3-1, 3.75). Radio coverage for Wedneday night's game will start at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
