Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - Brad Corley continued his offensive surge leading Altoona over Akron 8-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday at Blair County Ballpark. Corley went 2-for-3 and crushed his third home run of the season. In his last five games Corley is 8-for-18 (.444) with 2 HR and 4 RBI.
Altoona wasted no time scoring, putting up three runs on only one hit in the first inning. Pedro Lopez scored on a fielder's choice, and then Corley crossed the plate on a throwing error followed by Jonel Pacheco scoring on a passed ball.
Akron would answer in the top of the third scoring two runs. Jose Constanza singled in the first run and Jared Head scored on a fielder's choice to cut the Curve lead to 3-2.
The Curve put two runs on the board in the bottom half of the third, first Pacheco scored on a balk and then Jamie Romak scored Corley on a sacrifice fly and the Curve's lead was back to three runs 5-2. Corley then jacked the home run in the bottom of the fifth for Curve's sixth run.
In the sixth inning Catcher Milver Reyes smacked an RBI double to left center and scored one batter later on a single by Anderson Machado.
Curve starter Mike Crotta (2-0) picked up the win throwing six innings giving up 2 runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Akron won the first game of the doubleheader 5-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Hector Rondon (5-0). Rondon carried a perfect game for 4.2 innings and ended up allowing one run on three hits in 6.1 innings of work.
