May 7, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - New Hampshire's Al Quintana collected 4 hits - including a 9th inning grand slam - as the visiting Fisher Cats banged out 16 total hits and cruised to a 12-0 victory over the Rock Cats in front of 4,128 fans today at New Britain Stadium.
The game was a tight pitcher's duel until the 7th when the visitors erupted and scored 4 times. The key blow in the frame was a 2-run triple delivered by Sean Shoffit, as it served to expand a tenuous 1-0 New Hampshire advantage.
The Fisher Cats' leading hitter, Brian Dopirak, delivered the game's first run when he blooped a 2-out single to right-field to score David Cooper. Cooper had doubled in the previous at-bat for New Hampshire's first hit of the game off New Britain's starter and loser, Jeff Manship. Manship, the 2006 Big East Pitcher of the Year was sharp early and fanned 6 over 6 1/3 innings; he took the loss today which dropped his record to 2-3.
New Hampshire's starting Pitcher, Brandon Magee, picked up his first Win of 2009 as he surrendered only 3 hits through 5 1/3 innings of shutout work.
