New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH -The Altoona Curve banged out 16 hits, including four home runs, to crush the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12-3 Sunday afternoon at Fisher Cats Ballpark. Right-hander Eddie Candelario held New Hampshire to a run on three hits over six innings to earn his first win of the season.
Javier Guzman went 4-for-6 with a home run, a two-run double and a pair of singles to lead the offensive onslaught for Altoona (44-37). Jorge Cortes (2-for-5, HR, RBI), Josh Bonifay (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Tom Evans (3-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) all added home runs for Altoona, which rebounded from a four-hit shutout loss on Saturday to salvage the finale of the three-game series. With Reading's loss to Erie on Sunday, the Curve recaptured first place by one-half game over the SeaWolves in the Southern Division.
Left-hander Zach Jackson (2-3) had his worst outing as a Fisher Cat, allowing seven runs on seven hits and five walks in three-plus innings of work to suffer the loss. Rob Cosby went 2-for-4, hitting his eighth home run of the season against Candelario to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. That would be the only run New Hampshire (42-39) could muster against the veteran right-hander.
The Fisher Cats added two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning against Altoona reliever Justin Kaye. Jason Waugh had a pinch-hit RBI ground out to score Miguel Negron (single), and Ron Davenport added a run-scoring single to score Waugh.
New Hampshire will spend Independence Day in Binghamton, where the Fisher Cats and Mets open a four-game series Monday night at 7pm. Right-hander Dustin McGowan (0-0, 1.59) makes his second start for the Fisher Cats against Binghamton right-hander Ken Chenard (6-6, 4.66). The game can be heard on the Fisher Cats Radio Network (WKBR-1250AM (Manchester); www.wkxl1450.com) with Bob Lipman starting at 6:50pm.
The Fisher Cats return home to face the Portland Sea Dogs in a four-game series that begins Friday night at 6:35pm. For ticket information, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
