Curve Outlast Ducks 2-1 in Pitchers Duel

Despite a strong start from Logan Allen, the Altoona Curve score late to outduel the Akron RubberDucks 2-1 on Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Altoona finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when Lolo Sanchez started the inning with a single followed by an Aaron Shackelford walk to put runners on first and second. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners, Matt Fraizer singled home Sanchez and Shackelford to put the Curve ahead 2-0.

Mound Presence

Allen was dominant again for the RubberDucks. He only allowed two runners to reach second base in route to 6 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and walking three while striking out six. Manuel Alvarez followed allowing two runs on two hits. Tim Herrin tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when Will Brennan launched a solo home run into the Bud Light Lime Tiki Terrace to cut the Altoona lead in half to 2-1.

Notebook

Brennan's home run was his first since the game-tying home run in the ninth inning of 2021 league championship series ...Game Time: 2:18...Attendance: 1,276.

The RubberDucks will continue their series with the Altoona Curve on Thursday, April 28 at 6:35 p.m. Akron right-hander Xzavion Curry (0-1, 4.61 ERA) will face Curve right-hander Luis Ortiz (1-0, 3.75 ERA).
