Curve Bats Stay Hot in 6-2 Win at Reading

READING, Pa - The Altoona Curve cruised to a 6-2 win in the series opener against the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium as Stetson Allie knocked three hits, including his eighth home run of the season.

With 15 hits in the game, the Curve (35-21) have now totaled 59 hits in the five games played on the current road trip and raised their Eastern League-best team batting average to .278 in the first meeting against the Fightin Phils (31-26) this season.

The Curve broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with back-to-back RBI doubles by Max Moroff and Josh Bell against Reading starter Ben Lively (Loss, 4-4).

Altoona extended the lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Gift Ngoepe.

Starting pitcher Angel Sanchez (Win, 7-1) is now tied for the league lead in wins after allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts over six innings.

Reading pulled back within two in the bottom of the sixth, but Allie led off the eighth inning with a solo home run and the Curve added another run in the frame with a sacrifice fly by Bell to pull ahead, 6-2.

The Curve initially took a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single by Willy Garcia, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games. The streak is the longest by an Altoona hitter this year and the longest active streak in the Eastern League. Garcia finished the game 2-for-5, raising his average to .315.

Allie finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles. Bell drove in two runs while Ngoepe had three hits.

Relievers Jeremy Bleich (Hold, 5), Jeff Inman and Jhondaniel Medina each tossed one scoreless inning for Altoona.

Altoona and Reading continue the three-game series on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Right-hander Jason Creasy (7-0, 2.69) starts on the mound for the Curve, countered by Reading lefty Jesse Biddle (4-1, 4.24). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
