LAST GAME: The B-Mets allowed a season-high 14 runs for the second time this season in their 14-5 loss against Reading Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton committed three errors and allowed 15 hits in the loss, as Reading scored four or more runs in three different frames. Michael Conforto had three hits, including his first career Double-A home run. Seth Lugo allowed nine runs, six earned, in five innings. Binghamton has lost four of his last five starts.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara is making his tenth start of the year and the second of his career against Bowie. He has allowed four runs in each of his last three innings, and four of his last five. The righty has allowed six or more hits in each of the three starts, only walking two. The B-Mets have lost each of his last two starts. Lara earned a no-decision in his first career start against Bowie, surrendering a run in his seven innings last August at NYSEG Stadium. He has pitched to a 2.96 ERA in five road starts. Lefties are batting .317 against Lara.
BOWIE STARTER: RHP Elih Villanueva is making his ninth start of the season with Bowie and the first of his career against Binghamton. It's his first time in Double-A since 2010. He was signed by Baltimore in the off-season, after spending the past seven seasons in the Miami organization, making an appearance with the big league club in 2011. The southpaw allowed an unearned run in eight innings his last time out, taking the loss against New Hampshire due to a lack of run support. Prior to that outing, he made three starts with Norfolk (AAA), allowing 12 runs in 16.2 innings. He has a 2.37 ERA in three home starts with the Baysox.
VS. BOWIE: Binghamton went 5-2 vs. Bowie in 2014, winning two of three on the road. The B-Mets have won the season series each of the past two years, after going 1-7 vs. the Baysox in 2012.
JUNE SWOON: Binghamton is off to a 1-5 start in June for the second straight season. The B-Mets won their seventh June game in 2014, Beating New Britain 7-3. They're the two worst starts to a month for Binghamton since July, 2009, when the B-Mets went 1-8.
SERIES STRUGGLES: Binghamton has not won any of their last eight series, going 0-6-2. The B-Mets last series win came in Akron, when they took two of three from the RubberDucks, May 8-10.
OPENERS: The B-Mets are 9-8 in series openers this year, winning just one of their last four.
STARTING ROTATION: The B-Mets starting rotation is 1-10 in their last 19 starts, with a 5.54 ERA. A B-Mets starter has allowed six earned runs in two of the last three games. Overall, Binghamton's rotation is 14-18 this season, with just one win in the last 20 games.
J-ROD: Josh Rodriguez is batting .128 (5-for-39) over his last 11 games., hitless in his last 12 at-bats. He has 12 strikeouts and one extra-base hit during the 11 game slump. 10 of the strikeouts have come in his last 25 at-bats.
K's: Dustin Lawley has struck out in seven of his last nine at-bats. He has three strikeouts in each of his last two starts.
DOWN UNDER: The B-Mets are two games under .500 for the first time since ending the 2012 season with a 68-74 record. Binghamton is 3-11 in their last 14 games and are coming off a 1-5 homestand.
