JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Chris Curley became the first Biscuits opponent to hit for the cycle this season as the Butter and Blue dropped their seventh straight game, 7-4, to the Suns.
Chih-Wei Hu (2-2) took the mound for the Biscuits, and the Taiwanese right-hander was back to his usual self, mowing down the Suns hitters and allowing just one unearned run through five innings of work. Hu had the lead when he exited the game thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Patrick Leonard, and an RBI-single by Kean Wong, both in the fourth.
Jared Mortensen (4-5) would enter the game in the sixth, and after retiring the first batter of the inning, would allow a walk and a double before Curley stepped up and socked a go-ahead opposite field home run over the right field wall to hand the Suns their first lead at 4-2.
Moises Sierra would extend his 11-game hitting streak to 12 an inning later with a 448-foot blast over the left-center field wall off Brad Schreiber in the seventh. Then in the eighth, Curley came up for the fourth time and slammed a triple into the left-center field gap to knock in another run and complete the cycle. Curley would finish the game 4-4 with four RBI, and became the first Biscuit opponent to hit for the cycle since Tim Anderson of Birmingham did it at Riverwalk Stadium on May ninth of last year.
The Biscuits would threaten in the ninth, scoring a pair of runs off Jacksonville reliever Sean Donatello thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI-single by Jake DePew, but it was not enough as Montgomery went on to lose for the seventh-straight game.
Wednesday night's affair was supposed to be a doubleheader, but a rain delay meant that the twin billing would be pushed to Thursday, as the two squads played a nine-inning affair on this night instead. The Biscuits will try to get back on track on Thursday with Jake Faria (1-5) and Hunter Wood (0-0) taking the hill, with the doubleheader beginning at 4:05 PM CT.
