Jackson Generals News Release

Sevierville, Tenn. - For the first time since 2011, the Generals have won seven straight thanks to a 4-3 rain-shortened gme against the Tennessee Smokies Wednesday night at Smokies Stadium. Brett Ash was able to get through five innings with the Generals in front as the team won for the 12th time in 14 games.

The first five batters in the Generals' lineup were retired before six of the next nine reached base against Cubs' prospect Duane Underwood Jr. (0-2, 5.52). Jackson (34-18) got going in the second when Tim Lopes, Marcus Littlewood, and Dan Paolini hit consecutive two-out singles. Paolini drove in Lopes to make it 1-0 in favor of the Generals.

Ian Miller continued the hot hitting with a leadoff single in the third. After Miller swiped his team-high 14th stolen base, he scored on Guillermo Heredia's RBI double to right to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. Heredia advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an error by the right fielder Billy McKinney to make it 3-0.

With nobody on and two out in the third, D.J. Peterson blasted his sixth homer of the season on a solo shot to right to give Jackson a 4-0 lead. The home run extended Peterson's hit streak to a season-high 12, moving him ahead of Miller for the third longest on the Generals this season. Peterson went 1-for-2 on the night and is hitting .326 (16-for-49) with four homers, eight RBI, and three doubles over the streak.

Tennessee (23-29) finally got on the board in the second. With two outs, Chesny Young singled to right. Mark Zagunis then launched a two-run home run, his fourth, to right to cut the lead in half and make it 4-2 after three.

After neither team scored in the fourth, rain began to fall on Smokies Stadium. Jackson failed to score in the top of the fifth and needed just three outs to make the game official in the home half. After the Generals sprinted onto the field, the Smokies made it interesting and scored one on three singles to put the score at 4-3. With the tying run on second, Jeimer Candelario grounded out to the mound to end the fifth, and ultimately the game.

Because the teams got through the five innings, the game was official. The Generals have won seven in a row and 12 of their last 14 overall to improve their record to 16 games above .500. Guillermo Heredia extended his hitting streak to eight and his on-base streak to 14 games with a walk and a double in the contest.

A pair of notable streaks did come to an end thanks to the five-inning affair. Tyler O'Neill's stretch of eight consecutive games with an RBI came to an end and Benji Gonzalez saw his 16-game on-base streak snapped as well.

Brett Ash (7-1) picked up his Southern League best seventh win in a rain-shortened complete game victory. Ash gave up three runs, all earned, on nine hits, but didn't walk or strikeout a single batter. The righty hasn't walked a batter in two consecutive starts. Ash lost his first start of the season on April 10, but has since won seven straight decisions with two no decisions in the middle.

Jackson looks to make it a season-high eight wins in a row on Wednesday against Tennessee. RHP Jordan Pries (2-2, 6.48) gets the start for the Generals against RHP Paul Blackburd (3-1, 1.62) for the Smokies.
