AVON, Ohio - Lee Huggins doubled home Andrew Saylor with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to score the only run of the game and give the Crushers a 1-0 victory over the Florence Freedom Tuesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.

With Josh Arballo on the hill in the 11th for Florence, Travis Vetters worked a four-pitch walk with one out. The next batter, Andrew Saylor, singled through the hole but Vetters was gunned down trying to take third on the play on a controversial call that resulted in an ejection for John Massarelli.

It did not matter though, as Huggins drove the 1-1 pitch from Arballo over the head of left fielder Michael Campbell to give the Crushers the win.

The Crushers were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position to that point and had stranded runners on second or third in the fourth, eighth and ninth innings.

Josh Roberts was stellar in his start for the Crushers, pitching nine scoreless innings allowing just four hits and striking out a season-high five. He hit two Florence batters but did not walk a man and improved his record to 5-0.

Tim Holmes was equally as impressive for Florence in opposition however, as he tossed 7.2 shutout frames before being lifted in favor of Will Palmer in the eighth.

The Crushers (21-16) and Freedom (14-23) will play game two of the series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Phil Rummel (2-3, 5.97) is set to pitch for Lake Erie while RHP Andy Clark (3-2, 4.33) gets the call for Florence.

EXTRA SWINGS:

>The Crushers pitching staff has now gone 20.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run

>Josh Roberts' nine innings were the most by a Crushers starter this season. Roberts also had the previous high, with eight on June 14.

>The loss was the fifth in a row for Florence and its second-straight extra inning defeat.

>The win was the second of the walk off variety for Lake Erie, which defeated Oakland County 3-2 on May 25 on an Arden McWilliams walk-off single.
