Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have signed right-handed pitcher Chris Allen and former SIU catcher Tyler Bullock. Justin Randall suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's game and has been released.

Allen went 6-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 11 starts and two relief appearances with the Miners in 2008. Following the 2008 season, he was traded to Ottawa of the Can-Am League along with outfielder Manny Paula in exchange for outfielder Jereme Milons. Allen spent 2009 with Quebec in the Can-Am League and made four starts with the New Jersey Jackals this season before he was released. He is expected to be the starting pitcher in Tuesday night's game at Rent One Park.

Bullock hit .306 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs this season with the Salukis. The DuQuoin High School graduate was named player-of-the-year in the Prospect League in the summer of 2009 after he slugged a league-high 14 home runs, 47 RBI and batted .312. In 2010 he became the second player in SIU history to lead the school in home runs for three consecutive seasons.

Randall had a hit in 8-for-last 10 at-bats to raise his season average to .517. He will remain with the team as he rehabs.

With the signing of Bullock, the Miners now have four active former SIU players on their roster including reliever Shawn Joy, catcher Mark Kelly and shortstop Michael Stalter.
