Southern Illinois Miners News Release
MARION, Ill. - The Miners lost to Traverse City, 11-2, snapping the record setting win streak at 20 games Tuesday night. It was a lopsided affair from the start. Miners starting pitcher Chris Allen, who signed just before the game, allowed five run on four hits in the first inning. He lasted five innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and taking the loss. Ryan Platt earned his fourth victory of 2010 for the Beach Bums, working five innings and allowing two runs on six hits. With the loss, the Miners fell to 32-5 on the season. It was just the second loss for the Miners in 13 series openers this season.
The lone offensive bright spot came from Miners rookie Tyler Bullock, who signed with the team prior to the game. In the fourth inning the Southern Illinois University alumnus smoked a solo home run down the right field line in his first official at-bat following a walk in his first plate appearance.
Eric Fussell (3-1, 5.54) will take the mound on Wednesday and oppose Traverse City southpaw Johnny Bravo (1-0, 1.26) for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Rent One Park.
