Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers plated four runs on four hits in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's contest at All Pro Freight Stadium, and came from behind to defeat the Road Warriors, 6-3.
The victory for the Crushers (49-37) marks their fifth in their last six games while the loss for the Road Warriors (7-19) was their third in five games against the Crushers this season.
A pair of one out singles set the table for the Road Warriors in the top of the second inning, where they snapped a scoreless tie. Mike Schwartz and Doug Thennis stroked back-to-back singles before Wesley Jones plated Schwartz on a sacrifice fly.
Lake Erie responded, and tied the game an inning and a half later. Jason Taylor was issued a leadoff walk, stole second base, and moved to third on Andrew Davis's groundout. Russ Moldenhauer drove Taylor home on a sacrifice fly to tie the contest at1-1.
The Road Warriors scored twice in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead. Schwartz started the inning with a double, and Thennis followed with a free pass. Wesley Jones then reached on a bunt base hit, and Brian Erie's throwing error on the play allowed Schwartz to score. Jacob Daniel reached on a fielder's choice which plated Thennis, giving the Road Warriors a 3-1 lead.
The Crushers were held in check, until they scored four times on four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Walks were issued to Daniel Bowman and Taylor to start the inning. Moldenhauer stroked a one out single to score Bowman, before Kuzdale reached on a bunt base hit, scoring Taylor. Wally Correa capped the big inning with a two-run base hit, plating both Moldenhauer and Kuzdale.
Travis Risser (6-4) scored the victory for the Crushers, allowing just a hit over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Jonathan Kountis (18) worked a scoreless ninth inning score the save, while Stephen Corbett (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in the seventh.
Seven out of the starting nine reached safely for the Crushers. Four players hit safely multiple times on a night where they turned in 10 hits. J.C. Figueroa, Bowman, Moldenhauer and Correa all hit safely twice on the night.
The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the Road Warriors at All Pro Freight Stadium on Thursday night.
