Gateway Grizzlies News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Grizzlies starting pitcher Paul Tremlin fired six and two thirds hitless innings to help Gateway defeat the Windy City ThunderBolts 7-1 Wednesday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
Tremlin (6-3) helped pitch the Grizzlies back into sole possession of first place in the Frontier League West Division, one game ahead of Windy City (49-37) and Schaumburg. The right-hander from Quartz Hill, CA didn't give up a hit until a C.J. Gillman two-out RBI single in the seventh. He only surrendered one run on one hit in seven innings, while striking out six batters.
Gateway (50-36) got on the board in the first inning to take an early lead they would never relinquish. Rogelio Noris walked with two outs and Jon Myers brought him in on an RBI double to make it 1-0 Grizzlies.
After an unearned run in the third, John Shelby gave the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field, which was his 13th of the season.
Gateway added three insurances runs in the ninth inning on a two-run single by Landon Hernandez and an Antone DeJesus RBI single.
Shelby and DeJesus paced the Grizzlies with two hits each.
Gateway and Windy City finish off their series Thursday night with the Grizzlies looking for the series sweep. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (9-4) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
