Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers used a combination of solid pitching and timely hitting to defeat Midwest by a count of 4-3 to complete a three-game sweep at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night.
Lake Erie got on the board first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Rookie Eddie Tisdale hit an RBI single to bring home Luke Hetherington. Tim Binkoski would later score on an error to give the Crushers a 2-0 lead. Midwest would tie the game in the third on RBI hits by Roberto Mena and Jimmy Baker. Baker would strike again for the Sliders in the fifth on a run-scoring single to put Midwest up 3-2.
But that lead would not last for long. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth and Hetherington aboard, Gordon Gronkowski hit a two-run homer to left-center field to give Lake Erie a 4-3 lead. "It feels great for me right now," said Gronkowski, who homered for the second night in a row. "I'm confident and comfortable."
Brad Davidson made his first professional start for Lake Erie, and the left-hander worked four solid innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Brian Chambers relieved in the fifth and tossed three innings, giving up a run on three hits to earn the victory. Jacinto Gonell worked two scoreless innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
The Crushers now hit the road for the next six games. They'll start a three game series in Kalamazoo tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 P.M. Kevin Skogley will get the start for Lake Erie against Bernard Robert. "It's an unbelievable series coming up for us there," said Gronkowski. "We have to be ready."
