River City Rascals News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Javier Brown hit a line drive home run down the left field line as the Otters squeaked past the Rascals 3-2 Friday night at Bosse Field. River City dropped to 4-1 on the season against Evansville.
The Otters (8-18) rallied late with three unanswered runs to push past the Rascals. Matt Pulley doubled with two outs in eighth to bring up Frank Meade. The Otters catcher blasted a 2-2 pitch from Jason Lowey over the left field fence to tie the game at two.
River City (16-10) got the scoring underway in the fifth against starter, Dustin Renfrow. Chris Warters led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a Jorge Gutierrez sacrifice bunt. Pete Paris followed with a single for runners at first and third and only one out. Kevin Reynolds lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for a 1-0 lead.
Josh Lowey, making his second start this season, didn't allow a run in six innings. The right-hander allowed six hits and two walks with five strikeouts to earn a no-decision.
Ryan Wehrle gave the Rascals a 2-0 lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI single. JoJo Batten, Chris Colton and Scott Robinson led off with consecutive singles to load the bases with nobody out. After Maddox struck out, Wehrle delivered with a single to left field off Renfrow. Warters grounded into a 1-6-3 double play to end the Rascals threat.
Renfrow didn't allow a hit until a Chad Maddox single in the fourth and earned a no-decision with eight innings of two run ball. Renfrow allowed seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Eric Cordell (0-1) picked up his first loss of the season, allowing the walk-off home run to Brown in the ninth.
Nick Utley improved to 2-2 after working a scoreless ninth inning.
Paris finished 2-3 with a double while Reynolds and Wehrle had the lone runs batted in for the Rascals.
The teams will meet in the rubber match up tomorrow night in Evansville. Pablo Lopez will make his professional debut on the mound for the Rascals while Kai Tuomi goes for Evansville. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
