KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Lake Erie Crushers began the final road series of the season with an 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Kalamazoo Kings.

The Crushers opened the scoring in the first inning. Dom Duggan led off the game with an infield single and stole second for his 40th steal of the year. Duggan moved to third on a groundout and crossed the plate when Andrew Davis reached on an error.

Lake Erie extended the advantage in the third. Casey McGrew opened the inning with a single up the middle and scored as Dom Duggan laced an opposite field triple into the right field corner. The Crushers squandered an opportunity to score more, leaving runners at second and third in the frame.

Starting pitcher Matt Smith did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fifth for the Crushers. Kalamazoo broke though against Smith in the sixth, scoring four times to take the lead. J.J. Sferra and Eric Suttle posted consecutive singles before Matt Greener knocked in the first run with an RBI single to chop the lead in half. With one out, Brendan Murphy drove a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right to put the Kings ahead 4-2.

Dom Duggan again helped Lake Erie slice into the lead in the top of the eighth. Duggan walked leading off the inning and recorded his second steal of the night. He moved to third on a Raphael Turner single and crossed the plate as Lee Huggins lifted a sacrifice fly to right with one out. The Kings answered immediately in the bottom of the frame, batting around and plating four runs to extend the lead to 8-3.

The series continues tomorrow night with another 7:05 pm affair. RHP Alberto Rolon (2-4, 2.87) seeks his first win as a starting pitcher against LHP Alex Szymanski (0-1, 3.79) for Kalamazoo.
