Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, lost to the Southern Illinois Miners 11-4 Thursday night at the Corn Crib in Normal to close out their homestand. Normal came back from an early 2-0 deficit before the Miners put up nine runs over the last three innings to cruise to a win.

Normal starter Bobby Pritchett lasted six innings, scattered six hits and allowed two runs while striking out four hitters but walking six. Pritchett was in line for the win but it took three pitchers to complete the final three innings for Normal. Donald Furrow took the loss after lasting only 1/3 of an inning in the seventh giving up three hits, but walking two en route to five earned runs. Donald's brother Jason Furrow came in and worked 1 2/3 innings and gave up a run of his own and two hits before Mike LaLuna pitched the ninth inning giving up three hits, and three earned runs of his own.

The CornBelters' offense was paced by Mike Dufek's 2-4 night highlighted by a huge solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Also knocking in RBI were Asif Shah as well as Steve Alexander and Andrew Barbaro. All the CornBelters' runs came in the fifth and sixth innings, and at one point held a 4-2 lead.

The CornBelters now hit the road for a three game series with the Evansville Otters, their first stop on a six game road trip. First pitch is set for 6:35pm local time with pregame starting at 6:15pm and can be heard on WJBC.
