Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums saw a pitcher's duel unfold for six innings before the Oakland County Cruisers scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning, lifting the Cruisers to a 5-1 win.
Oakland County scored the first run of the night on an RBI double by Joash Brodin in the first inning. The Beach Bums would rally as a Luis Fernandez error in the third brought home Andrew Franco to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tight into the seventh as both Kevin Reese and Kevin Asselin were on point. Reese at one time retired 13 of 15 batters from the second through the fifth innings, while Asselin set down 11 of 13 during the same time frame.
The Cruisers would tally a run on a pop fly in the seventh by Martin Parra and would later score three unearned runs in the inning, capped by a Brodin homer to make it 5-1. Asselin (9-3) finished the job as he went the distance for Oakland County.
Kevin Reese (9-9) pitched well, but took the hard luck loss for the Beach Bums. In seven innings, Reese gave up two earned runs, walked just one and struck out three while recording 13 of his 21 outs via the ground ball.
The middle game of the series comes up on Saturday night with a bonus FANtastic Fireworks Night at Wuerfel Park. It's a birthday party for Suntan and Sunburn with many other area mascots helping the duo celebrate. For more information or tickets, call 943-0100 or log on to www.tcbeachbums.com.
