Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio- The Lake Erie Crushers were defeated by the Joliet Slammers, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at All Pro Freight Stadium, where a good pitching performance was on display for both sides until the Slammers opened the game up with a five run seventh inning.
With the loss, the Crushers (34-49) have now lost five in a row and have gone 2-8 in their previous 10 games. The win for the Slammers (36-48) completes the sweep of the Crushers and they are 4-2 over their last six games.
The Slammers scored first in the fourth inning. With two outs, Jeremy Nowak reached on an error by Cody Stevens, who dropped a pop up next to second base. The next batter, Mike Garza, knocked in a run with a double to the right center-field gap to put Joliet up by one run.
In the seventh inning, the Slammers blew the game open. Garza led off with his second double of the game. Marc Flores then came up and hit his fourth home run of the year. With two outs, Alfredo Rodriguez walked and Jeremy Nowak had a base hit that scored Cleary. The Slammers scored five runs in the inning and sent ten men to the plate.

After a pitch to Juan Sanchez, Slammers catcher Joe Staley threw a pickoff attempt to first base that bounced past Flores and into right field. Brock came around to score and Barraza moved to third before Sanchez grounded out to second.
