Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK- The Rockford Aviators suffered a come-from-behind defeat at the hands of the Southern Illinois Sunday afternoon at Aviators Stadium by a final of 7-4. It took 10 innings for the squads to resolve their differences, but in the end, it was the Miners completing the sweep in Loves Park.

Payton Baskette took the hill to start for the Rockford Aviators to start and held the Miners scoreless over the first 4 frames. Michael Hur built a 3-run lead with one swing, launching a 2-out HR to left center in the 2nd to bring home himself, Anthony Renteria, and Raul Linares.

The Miners got a run in the 5th on an RBI double by Michael Earley and then a homer by Niko Vasquez to make it 3-2. They would take the lead in the 7th on a 2-run HR by Craig Massey off Roberto Padilla in the 7th.

The Aviators would plate Collin Shaw in the 8th on a clutch RBI single by Justin Fox to tie the contest and had their first 2 men on in the bottom of the 9th. But they could not capitalize on the chance to make it a walkoff win, and the game went to extra frames.

The Miners then scored three times in the top of the 10th on 4 walks (1 intentional), a double, and an error. The Aviators left men on the corners in the bottom of the 10th to fall short in the comeback effort.

The Aviators maintain a 3-game lead in the race for the final wild card spot over Florence, whom they travel to see for a doubleheader on Wednesday. Start time will be 5:35 ET/ 4:35 CT.
