Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers fought their way back time and time again on Thursday night against the Gateway Grizzlies, but ultimately ran out of comebacks. The Grizzlies scored four runs in the top of the tenth inning to defeat the Crushers 10-7.

Lake Erie reliever Jacinto Gonell allowed all four runs on three hits and three walks as he suffered his second loss of the season. Jon Quigley and Jareck West each delivered RBI singles, while Brandon Peters added a sacrifice fly. The Crushers would pick up a run in the tenth inning on a passed ball that scored Andrew Davis. In fact, Lake Erie had the tying run at the plate with one out but Gateway reliever Jamie Arneson retired the last two batters to finish off the Crushers.

The Crushers fell behind 3-1 after the first inning and trailed 5-1 after Gateway's Chad Rothford hit a two-run homer to right off of Brent Lysander in the third. But the Crushers slowly fought their way back as they scored two runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Gateway retook the lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Brandon Johnson with two outs and would carry their 6-5 advantage into the ninth inning. But the Crushers would not quit as Tim Binkoski would score the tying run from second base off of a fielder's choice hit by Eddie Tisdale.

In some ways, the Crushers were their own worst enemy as they stranded 16 runners on base and were just 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position. "We had our opportunities tonight early and at the end. But the biggest things now is for us not to hang our heads after this loss," said Drew Saylor, who led the Crushers with three hits and two runs batted in.

Lake Erie drops to 25-19 on the season and will open a three game series with the West Division-leading River City Rascals starting Friday night at 7:05.
