Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti hold on to sweep the River City Rascals after a 4-3 win Thursday night at EMU's Oestrike Stadium. Two big hits by Joash Brodin, and Ben Barrone provided all the offense the Sliders pitching needed.
River City scored first in the second inning, Chris Colton came around on a base hit line drive that went under Brodin's glove.
Midwest answered in their next at bat on Brodin's two-out, two-run homer. The Rascals tacked on another run to tie the game at two from three hits in the third.
The next Slider clutch hit was when Barrone came to the plate with Bryan Bonner on second, and Brodin on first. Barrone hit a lazer down the left field line which plated both runs, and gave the Sliders a lead they didn't relinquish.
Jeff Fischer won his third game in as many appearances. He threw six innings allowing two earned runs. Earl Oakes came on and pitched the seventh and eighth only allowing one hit.
Arshwin Asjes saved his fifth game of the season retiring the side in order to end the game.
The Sliders look to expand their six game winning streak when the Gateway Grizzles come in for a three-game weekend series. Friday night's game at EMU's Oestrike Stadium begins at 7:05 p.m. as Kyle Wink will make his first start for Midwest.
