Syracuse, NY - Despite goals from Patrick Maroon and Kyle Palmieri the Crunch fell to the Adirondack Phantoms 5-2 tonight at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

The Phantoms got on the scoreboard first when Jonathon Kalinski took a Dan Jancevski pass from behind the net and after holding for a moment fired the puck past Crunch goaltender Jeff Deslauriers to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead 6:31 into the first frame.

Maroon scored a wrap-around goal that beat Phantoms goaltender Jason Bacashihua at the 12:36 mark of the first, sending the Crunch and Phantoms into the first intermission locked at 1-1.

The Crunch started the second period on the penalty kill as J.F. Jacques was handed a double-minor for high-sticking at the 20:00 of the first period. Just seven seconds after the Jacques penalty expired, the Phantoms took their second lead of the game when Ben Holmstrom scored to put the Phantoms up 2-1, 4:07 into the second stanza.

The Crunch struck back with a goal from Palmieri with 9:18 remaining in the second. Palmieri took a Mat Clark pass and slid the puck past Bacashihua into a wide open net to tie the game 2-2.

Phantoms right wing Holmstrom took a delay of game penalty with 8:31 remaining to give Syracuse their third power play opportunity of the game. While shorthanded, Phantoms left wing Denis Hamel rushed down the far side and faked a shot before passing to Eric Wellwood who slid the puck five-hole to give the Phantoms a 3-2 lead which they carried into the third period.

The Phantoms added two more goals courtesy of Jason Akeson and Blake Kessel to reach the final score of 5-2.
