Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Tye McGinn scored in his first game back since Oct. 16 to knot the score early in the first period, but the Hershey Bears continued on a four-goal run to down the Syracuse Crunch, 5-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

The loss moves the Crunch to 28-18-5-5 on the season. The Bears take the four-game season series with a 3-0-1-0 record.

Mike McKenna stopped 5-of-9 shots in net for the Crunch before being relieved by Kristers Gudlevskis in the second period. Gudlevskis went on to turn aside 8-of-9. Syracuse was unable to convert on nine power play opportunities, while Hershey was 2-for-4.

The Bears were first on the board just 1:37 into the contest. As the net came off the moorings, Tom Gilbert cut across the slot and backhanded one in. Assists went to Riley Barber and Travis Boyd.

McGinn evened the score minutes later. Yanni Gourde won the faceoff in the right circle and chipped it back for Matt Taormina. A quick redirection gave McGinn the puck to net off a wrist shot from the right wing.

Hershey regained the lead with back-to-back power-play goals. The first came with 8:11 remaining in the opening frame. After a series of quick tic-tac-toe passing between Chris Bourque and Liam O'Brien, Barber flipped the puck in from the right post. Just 1:16 later, Christian Thomas scored on a short breakaway with the help of Chandler Stephenson.

The Bears added two more in the second period to secure a 5-1 victory. Christian Djoos skated down the left wing side and sniped one short side 7:54 into the frame to chase McKenna from the game. Garrett Mitchell and Kelly Zajac earned points on the goal. With 6:27 remaining in the second, Thomas tallied his second of the night from the high slot. Colby Williams recorded the helper.

The Crunch host the Binghamton Senators tomorrow at 7 p.m.
