Devils Push Past Bruins in 4-3 Victory

PROVIDENCE, RI - Blake Pietila netted two goals and John Quenneville picked up three assists in the Devils 4-3 victory over the Providence Bruins Friday at Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Devils improve to 32-24-1-1. The Bruins move to 33-15-5-4.

Peter Mueller got the Bruins on the board first at 1:39 of the second period after shooting one from the bottom of the right side circle past Devils netminder Ken Appleby. Danton Heinen and Austin Czarnik picked up the assists on the play. Tommy Cross added to the Providence lead at 13:14 of the second period from a shot from the point. Jake DeBrusk and Wayne Simpson were credited the assists.

Max Novak worked his way down the right side off a line change and was able to slip one past Zane McIntyre at 17:30 of the second period. Luke Gazdic and Vojtech Mozik picked up the assists on the play.

Pietila tied the game at 2:38 of the third period with a shot from the top of the slot on the power play. Quenneville and Jacob MacDonald got the assists. Pietila scored again at 5:05 of the period when McIntyre misplayed the puck behind the net and Quenneville was able to pass Pietila the puck for quick open net shot.

Nick Lappin netted the game winner at 14:35 of the third on a pass from Quenneville. It was Lappin's ninth goal of the season and pushed the Devils to a 4-2 lead.

The Bruins fought back when Heinen netted their third and final goal at 15:18 of the final frame. The assists went to Colton Hargrove and Jordan Szwarz.

Appleby stopped 36 of 39 shots and improves his record to 16-11-0. McIntyre turned aside 31 of the 35 shots he faced and moved his record to 15-1-1.

The Devils travel to face the Comets for a 7 pm puck drop Saturday at Utica Memorial Auditorium.
