Crunch Rally Past Senators, 3-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Slater Koekkoek and Matt Taormina netted identical shots two minutes apart in the third period to rally the Syracuse Crunch past the Binghamton Senators, 3-2, tonight at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Tye McGinn opened scoring for the Crunch, tallying his 15th of the season in the first period, before the Crunch allowed two unanswered markers. However, the team was able to come back and top the Senators in the final stanza. McGinn and Taormina both recorded multi-point games with a goal and assist, while Anthony DeAngelo picked up two helpers.

Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox earned the win with a 21-save performance, moving the team to 19-15-7-1 on the season and 5-0-1-0 in the 10-game series with the Senators. Binghamton netminder Chris Driedger stopped 20 of 23 shots in the team's third consecutive loss. Syracuse was unable to convert on three man-advantages, while the penalty kill unit went 3-for-4.

The Crunch were first on the board during 4-on-4 play at the 9:28 mark of the first period. Taormina chipped the puck out to Matthew Peca from the boards. Peca skated in on the left wing side, faked a shot and dropped a slick pass back for McGinn to net from the slot.

Five minutes later, the Senators responded while on the power play. Michael Kostka received a pass from Ryan Dzingel and walked the blue line before firing from the point. Cole Schneider tipped the shot in front of the cage to even the score.

With 4:38 remaining in the middle stanza, Binghamton took the lead for the first time. Kostka chipped the puck over the shoulder of Wilcox off assists from Kyle Flanagan and Buddy Robinson.

The Crunch stole back the lead with two goals in two minutes in the third frame. Koekkoek ripped a slap shot from the top of the left circle with the help of McGinn and DeAngelo. Taormina followed to put the Crunch back on top, netting an almost identical shot. DeAngelo made it a multi-point night with an assist on the eventual game-winner.

Syracuse held onto the lead and downed Binghamton, 3-2. The team is back in action when they travel to face the Rochester Americans on Jan. 27 at 7:05 p.m.
