Crunch Fall to Monsters, 4-3, in OT

CLEVELAND, OHIO. - After back-and-forth scoring, the Syracuse Crunch fell to the Cleveland Monsters, 4-3, tonight at Quicken Loans Arena.

Despite the loss snapping a seven-game winning streak, the Crunch are still on an 11-game points streak and sit at 11-5-2-0 on the season.

Eddie Pasquale turned aside 34-of-38 in net for the Crunch. Jean-Francois Berube stopped 21-of-24 for the Monsters. Syracuse's power play continued its red-hot streak going 2-for-3, while the penalty kill shut down all four Cleveland man-advantages.

The Crunch opened scoring 4:49 into the game. Hubert Labrie cleared the puck to Michael Bournival in the neutral zone. He fed Carter Verhaeghe who skated down the left wing, cut across the ice and backhanded his eighth of the season.

The Monsters evened the score at the 13:50 mark of the first period. Adam Clendening fired a slap shot from the right point that was tipped down low by Zac Dalpe. Pasquale made the initial save, but left the rebound loose for Paul Bittner to jam in. Two minutes later, Cleveland took the lead. Nathan Gerbe threw a centering feed from the left boards for Kevin Stenlund to chip in from in front of the crease.

With 1:30 remaining in the opened frame, Syracuse knotted the game on the power play. Andy Andreoff cleaned up the rebound of Verhaeghe's one-timer from the left point. The secondary assist went to Alex Barre-Boulet.

The Crunch regained the lead with another power-play goal 3:03 into the second period. Conacher won a battle along the boards to keep the play in the zone and sent it down to Andreoff. He connected across the slot to Barre-Boulet who netted it back door.

Cleveland tied the game 10:25 into the final frame to force overtime. Sonny Milano picked up a rebound and sauced over for Clendening to score all alone in the right circle. The secondary helper went to Kole Sherwood.

The Monsters took the victory 3:33 in overtime when Sherwood potted the game-winner on a second chance opportunity. Dalpe and Tommy Cross earned the assists.

The Crunch and Monsters rematch tomorrow at 1 p.m.
