TONIGHT
Stockton hosts San Jose tonight for a Saturday Night rivalry matchup on Hip Hop Night at 6:00 PM. Stockton is fresh off an impressive 4-2 win last night over the Ontario Reign. Stockton will look to ride the momentum of last night's home victory and take down the Pacific Division's top team. Stockton is just 1-4 in the first five meetings with San Jose this season. Stockton suffered a setback to San Jose on Tuesday morning at the SAP Center despite getting out to an early lead on the road. San Jose has been off since Tuesday and the Heat are playing their fourth game in the last seven days. Tonight is the first Hip Hop Night at Stockton Arena. Jam out to some Hip Hop music and all fans in attendance will get a Straight out of Stockton T-Shirt!
WHO TO WATCH
Dillon Dube showcased his speed all night creating a number of strong scoring chances for his line mates Glenn Gawdin and Matthew Phillips. Dube recorded two assists on the night. His speed and confidence stood out from his opening shift. San Jose boasts top-end team speed and Dube's line will be counted on throughout the night to provide a spark and outmatch the Barracuda in transition.
The 20-year-old rookie skated in 20 games with the Flames earlier this season before being assigned yesterday to Stockton. Dube has a modest one goal and four assists this year with Calgary. Bill Peters and Flames management stressed the importance of having Dube get more ice time and fans should continue to expect that as his time with Stockton continues.
FIRST FOR HEALEY
It took Josh Healey 71 games to notch his first pro goal, but it was worth the wait for the second-year defenseman. Healey was all smiles following last night's win speaking about his first goal as a pro. Healey's first goal last night will have a special visual always attached to it as the socks came raining down onto the ice.
SOLID PENALTY KILL
Stockton's penalty kill is red hot right now and after killing off all three chances last night, Stockton is 28 of their last 32 on the penalty kill over the last nine games. Since Wednesday, November 14th in Colorado, Stockton is operating at 87.5% on the penalty kill. Stockton's penalty kill has been stout against the Barracuda all season long, killing off 25 of 28 attempts against the Barracuda penalty this season.
ANDREW MANGIAPANE UP TO CALGARY
On Friday morning the Calgary Flames recalled winger Andrew Mangiapane from Stockton. Although he did not play in Friday's win over the Kings, Mangiapane could make his season debut with the Flames as early as this weekend. Mangiapane, currently in his third year with the Stockton Heat, is averaging more than a point-per-game this season with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 13 games played. Last season Mangiapane spent 10 games with the Calgary Flames in addition to leading the Stockton Heat in scoring with 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 39 games. He was Calgary's sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft.
INTERESTING FACT
Stockton's success this year has come in tight contests. The club boasts an impressive 6-1-1 record in one goal games this season. Conversely, Stockton is just 2-7 in games separated by three goals or more. In close games Stockton continues to find their offense in the third period. Goaltending has not been a team strength during most of the season, but they continue to get good goaltending in the third period, particularly when the game is tight.
