Aube-Kubel Lifts Phantoms over Rocket 3-2 in Overtime

Laval Rocket News Release
LAVAL - Sixty minutes was not enough to decide a winner between the Lehigh Valley Phantom and the Laval Rocket at Place Bell on Friday night, as the Phantom needed an extra 48 seconds to defeat the Rocket 3-2 in overtime.
Despite not being bombarded with shots in the opening period, Laval netminder Charlie Lindgren demonstrated that he was alert and in the game from the get-go by making a glove save on a two-on-one in the opening minutes and by making several other saves through thick traffic by period's end. A lack of discipline from the Phantoms sent the Rocket to the powerplay twice in the first 20 minutes, but the teams ended up retreating to their dressing rooms scoreless.
The scoring opened early in the second period in favour of the Rocket with Byron Froese's second goal in as many games and his eighth of the season, which occurred when he whacked the puck from the slot behind Lehigh Valley's Carter Hart. Unfortunately for Joël Bouchard's players however, their lead lasted less than a minute as the Phantom struck on the powerplay to make it 1-1 - the score that held for the remainder of the period.
Michael Pezzetta's second of the season gave Laval a 2-1 lead near the halfway mark of the third period as Karl Alzner's shot deflected off him and took Hart by surprise, but another powerplay goal from the Phantom in the final minute of play while Hart was on the bench sent the teams to overtime where the Phantom skated away with the 3-2 victory.
"It's always nice to score but obviously we wanted a better outcome," said Pezzetta after the game. "I thought we played a pretty solid 60-minute game tonight."
Bouchard also expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance after the game. "I thought we played an excellent third period," he explained. "We were in control and I find the team is progressing, we manage the game well."
