WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Lake Erie Crushers used a strong eight inning performance from Matt Rein, and a five-run eighth inning to pull away from the Washington Wild Things on Saturday night, as they took the second game of the series, 9-1.

The Crushers (9-11) have now won three in a row, tying their longest winning streak of the season, while the loss for the Wild Things (11-8) drops their record to 2-4 at home on the young season.

The scoring started early, as the Crushers scored first for the third game in a row. Kevin Berard was hit by the first pitch of the night, and went station-to-station to score the first run of the night. He stole second, and made his way to third on Russ Moldenhauer's fly-out, before Andrew Davis's groundout scored him.

Lake Erie added another run in the top of the fourth, on Max Casper's first of two run scoring singles. Daniel Bowman stroked a one out single, and made his way to second on Emmanuel Quiles's base hit. Casper then singled into shallow right to score Bowman.

The Crushers added two more in the top of the fifth. Russ Moldenhauer ripped a two-out triple to right-center field, scoring Gauntlett Eldemire, and Moldenhauer scored later in the inning on Bowman's second base hit of the night.

Washington scratched their only run across in the bottom of the sixth inning. Darian Sandford singled to start the inning, before stealing second, third, and scored on Jovan Rosa's double down the right field line.

Lake Erie put the game out of reach by scoring five times on six hits in the top of the eighth. Davis, Bowman, Quiles, and Casper started the inning with four consecutive singles. Casper's base hit scored Davis to add to the Lake Erie advantage, and was enough to knock Washington starting pitcher Gary Lee (2-1) out of the game. Seth Granger then delivered the knockout punch, with a three-run triple down the right field line. He scored later in the inning on Juan Sanchez's groundout.

Matt Rein (2-2) was outstanding for the Crushers. The lefty scored the victory after allowing just a run on five hits while fanning two in eight innings of work. Lee entered the game with the fifth best ERA in the league (0.84) but was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs on 11 hits over seven innings of action.

Eight out of the starting nine hit safely for the Crushers. Quiles led the way for the Crushers, going 3-for-4, and has now hit safely in his last eight games. Bowman turned in a three-hit performance as well, going 3-for-5 with a trio of singles. Casper and Granger both turned in two hits apiece, while Davis's eighth inning single extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Crushers will continue their three game series against the Washington Wild Things at Consol Energy Park on Saturday evening. The Crushers will start right hander Devyn Rivera (1-1, 3.60) and the Wild Things will start left hander Shawn Smith (1-1, 3.22). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
