Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters kept their perfect homestand alive with an 8-3 victory over the Florence Freedom on Saturday night.

Evansville has now won five consecutive games (nine straight at home) as the Otters are looking for a series and homestand sweep on Sunday night.

Infielder Steve Marino provided Evansville with the lead on a third inning RBI single. A double play plated another run in the fifth and Evansville erupted for another three runs in the sixth inning. Catcher John Nester hit a solo home run and first baseman Andrew Clark followed with a two-run double later in the inning.

Down 5-0, Florence would rally against reliever Alex Sunderland in the seventh inning. The Freedom loaded the bases with no one out and three runs would score on the bases-clearing double from outfielder Kyle Bluestein. Reliever Coty Saranthus got the final out of the inning and the Evansville offense responded in the bottom of the inning.

Leading 5-3, the Otters also loaded the bases as outfielder C.J. Henry hit a long, fly ball to right-center field. It split the outfielders, scoring all three runners and pushing Evansville ahead 8-3.

Reliever Patrick Crider threw a scoreless ninth inning to complete the win.

The Otters are now 14-5 this season, boasting the best record in the Frontier League. Florence falls to 11-9 with the loss.

Starting pitcher Ryan Zamorsky (3-0) earns the win. He walked two and allowed one hit in five scoreless innings. The loss goes to Brent Choban (2-1) of Florence who yielded four runs in 5.1 innings.

All Evansville players reached base in the win as seven players had at least one hit.

Evansville will try for the sweep on Sunday in a 5:05 p.m. CDT game against the Florence Freedom. It is Berry Plastics Night at Bosse Field and another Otter Pup Gang meeting as well. Left-hander Rich Hawkins (0-0, 1.80) will be on the mound for Evansville as he will be opposed by right-hander Michael Oros (0-0, 2.03) of the Florence Freedom.
