NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, rebounded with two big early innings for an 8-1 win over the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday night at the Corn Crib.

The first CornBelters hitter, Mike Schwartz, put the hosts on the board on the game's third pitch with a home run to the right field lawn. Steven Felix then doubled and scored on a Pat McKenna line single. McKenna then scored on a bounding single up the middle by David Medina, who came home on a similar base hit from T.J. Gavlik to give the Belters a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Belters continued the offense in the second inning with another four-run frame when Keoni Manago led off reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Schwartz walked and the Belters loaded the bases when the sacrifice attempt by Santiago Chrino was misplayed. Felix provided a two-RBI single and McKenna drove in a run to give the Belters an 8-0 lead after two frames.

The Miners finally dented the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Cannon Lester drew a one-out walk and came home on a bases-loaded infield single by Tyler Hall to cut the deficit to 8-1.

Luis Noel (2-0) went seven innings, giving up six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in his longest outing of the year for the win. Miners starter Cody Hall (1-2) took the loss.

The series concludes with a 6 p.m. Sunday first pitch against the Miners.
