Greenville Drive News Release

Hickory, NC - The Greenville Drive (3-7, 37-42) can chalk Saturday night's game up as one of the most painful losses of the season, as the Hickory Crawdads (8-2, 49-30) scored the winning run on a passed ball to come away with a 5-4 win in which all five of their runs were unearned.

Jairo Beras began the bottom of the ninth against Jacob Dahlstrand (4-4) with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a groundout, and when a Dahlstrand pitch ticked off Jake Romanski's glove, Beras scooted home with the winning run.

Dahlstrand took the tough-luck loss after allowing two unearned runs in three and two-third innings with three strikeouts. Jose Valdespina (2-0) got the win after two scoreless relief innings for Hickory.

Kendrick Perkins began the scoring on the evening with a solo homer off Akeem Bostick in the top of the third. It was Perkins' second consecutive night with a homer and his sixth long ball of the year.

Drive starter Daniel McGrath kept the Crawdads off the scoreboard for four innings, but a trio of unearned runs in the fifth put Hickory on top. After Kevin Mager's throwing error allowed Beras to move to second on a pickoff attempt with two outs, Michael De Leon tripled to center to plate the tying run, and Lewis Brinson followed with a two-run blast to center.

Mager drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth to cut the Hickory lead to one, and Carlos Asuaje delivered a two-run single in the seventh to put the Drive back up 4-3.

A double-play groundout for Hickory in the bottom of the eighth tied the game up at four.

Beras and De Leon had two hits apiece for Hickory. Asuaje went 3-5 with a pair of RBI for Greenville, while Perkins had a pair of hits.

The teams will meet for game three of the four-game set on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM. RH Jamie Callahan (2-7, 6.79) looks to get the Drive back on track, while the Crawdads send RH Tyler Smith (4-1, 3.48) to the mound.
