Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - T.J. Williams overcame a slow start at the plate by blasting the Intimidators to a walk-off win, 4-3, over the Charleston RiverDogs on Friday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. With the game knotted 3-3 and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Williams cranked a 2-1 pitch off Brett Gerritse over the wall in right-center field to win the game for Kannapolis (36-41, 7-3 Second Half), which won its fourth straight game.

Williams' heroics spoiled Charleston's bid at a comeback. The RiverDogs overcame a 3-0 deficit by taking advantage of three Kannapolis errors and scoring three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. With two on and one out, Tyler Wade doubled off Andrew Mitchell to left field to plate one run, and a fielding error by left fielder Carl Thomore allowed another to score, cutting the Kannapolis lead to one. Mike Ford later reached base on a 2-out error by Christian Stringer, and when Ford stole second, catcher Jeremy Dowdy's throw sailed into center field, allowing Wade to score the tying run.

Ben Brewster (1-0) earned his first professional win, tossing 1.1 scoreless inning while striking out three batters. He worked himself into a jam in the ninth inning, allowing Charleston to load the bases with one out, but the White Sox 15th round pick from the June 2014 draft struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning.

Kannapolis built a 3-0 lead on Dowdy's 2-run base hit in the fourth inning, and Danny Hayes added a solo home run (6). Hayes finished 2-3 with two runs scored to go along with his team-lead-tying home run. Williams' home run (5) was his second in as many games, the fourth Intimidators player to homer in consecutive games this season.

The blast was the first walk-off home run for Kannapolis since Sept. 2, 2013, when Jacob May ended the regular season in walk-off fashion against Hagerstown.

Robinson Leyer spun 6.0 scoreless innings for Kannapolis, lowing his ERA below 3.00 for the first time this season (2.82). The right-hander has been one of the best pitchers in the minor leagues since mid-April, posting a 1.59 ERA (13 ER/73.2 IP) in his last 13 starts.

The Intimidators and RiverDogs play Game 3 of this 4-game series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m. For ticket and promotional information, call the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
