SAVANNAH, Ga. - It was a battle of endurance for Hickory and Savannah in Thursday night's series opener at Historic Grayson Stadium. Unfortunately, Savannah came up short getting outslugged 10-8, as the Crawdads scored runs in five different innings.

Andy Baldwin, making his fourth start for Savannah, struggled for the first time since his June 5 arrival. In five innings of work, the righty allowed nine runs, eight earned on 11 hits.

A bright spot for the Savannah staff was the performance of relievers Somer Gonzalez and Thomas Wilson. The pair allowed only one more run over four solid innings of work.

Edgardo Baez and Devin Ivany, both of who represented the Gnats in last Tuesday's All-Star Game in Augusta, smacked big home runs. Baez' three-run shot traveled better than 450 feet over the wall in center to pull the Gnats to within two runs at 5-3.

Savannah center fielder Rogearvin Bernadina continued to yield a hot bat. The Gnats center fielder was 3-for-4 with three runs and a pair of doubles.

Savannah and Hickory face off in the second contest of the four-game series Friday, July 1 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available online or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
