Crawdads Blank Tourists in Series Opener

Hickory, NC - The Crawdads shutout the Asheville Tourists 2-0 on Monday night in the series opener.

The Crawdads jumped out to an early lead with a pair of doubles in the first. JP Martinez led off the inning with a double to center. Curtis Terry brought him around to score with a double of his own to right.

They added on another run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homerun by Sam Huff. The homer is Huff's fourth of the season.

Crawdads starter Tim Brennan took a no-hitter through five before giving up a single to the leadoff batter in the sixth. He finished the evening with just the one hit allowed across six frames with three strikeouts and a walk. Abdiel Mendoza took over in the seventh inning. He loaded the bases on a hit and two walks with only one out but was able to escape without a run scoring. Scott Engler recorded his first save of the season, pitching two hitless innings and striking out five batters.

The series will continue tomorrow night with a 6:30pm first pitch. It is the first Dollar Dog Tuesday of the season which means hot dogs at $1 and dogs can get in for $1 thanks to Cody Law Firm, Hebrew National, and WHKY 1290 AM and 102.3 FM. There will also be $2 craft beers courtesy of Lowes Foods.
