IHL 2 Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown to Face-Off

March 10, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

First place will be on the line when the Kalamazoo Wings travel to the L.C. Walker Arena to play the Muskegon Fury. The K-Wings come into the game just one point behind the Fury for the top spot in both the Central Division and the UHL. Kalamazoo is 4-2-1 against Muskegon this season and the K-Wings are currently on a two-game winning streak against their intra-state rivals.

Over the past two weeks, the K-Wings have been the hottest team in the UHL. Kalamazoo is on an eight game unbeaten streak, which includes a league high five-game winning streak. The K-Wings have gone 7-0-1 in their last eight games. Kalamazoo will also look to extend their current road winning streak. Coming into tonight, the K-Wings have won four straight games away from Wings Stadium.

Over a majority of the season, the Muskegon Fury have been the kings of the UHL mountain. Like Kalamazoo, Muskegon is also looking to extend a winning streak. The Fury come into tonight's game on a two-game winning streak. Tonight will be the Fury debut of both Anthony Blumer and Tom Galvin, who were acquired from the Quad City Mallards earlier this week for Steve O'Rourke and Jeff Petruic.

The K-Wings start the week on an eight-game unbeaten streak. In their past eight games, Kalamazoo has a record of 7-0-1, which includes a five-game overall winning streak. The five-game winning streak is the longest winning streak in the UHL, while the eight-game unbeaten streak ties a season high for the K-Wings.

Four in a Row

Besides the overall winning streak, the K-Wings will be looking to extend their road winning streak. Kalamazoo has won four straight road games, which is one shy of their season high.

Deitsch Reaches 17

Forward Jason Deitsch will start the night on a 17-game point streak and eight-game goal streak. Both the point and goal streaks are season highs for the K-Wings.

Goaltender of the Week

For the third time this season, Joel Martin has won the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week. The rookie goaltender leads the UHL in goals against average (2.15), wins (28), and shutouts (7).
