Vlad Serov scored two goals as the Motor City Mechanics defeated the Missouri River Otters 5-1 Friday night at the Great Lakes Sports City.
Brenden Cuthbert stopped all 12 shots he saw in the opening period and the River Otters grabbed a 1-0 lead when Brad MacMillan took a perfect pass from Mark Odut and fired the puck beyond the outstretched glove of Rod Branch. The Mechanics took command of the game in the second period with three unanswered goals scored by Serov, Matt Burgoyne, and Adam Edinger. Motor City added two goals in the third period, one from Serov and one scored by Peter Szabo to seal the victory. Branch made 29 saves for the victory while Cuthbert made 36 saves in defeat.
The River Otters head to Muskegon to take on the two-time defending Colonial Cup Champion Fury Saturday night at the L.C. Walker Arena. The puck drops at 6:40 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Networks, located at www.riverotters.com.
