IHL 2 Kalamazoo Wings

Countdown to Face-Off

January 7, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

For the final time in the regular season, the Kalamazoo Wings will battle the Roanoke Valley Vipers. Tonight is also the second straight game between the teams. Kalamazoo defeated Roanoke Valley 2-1 last night at the Roanoke Civic Center and leads the season series with a record of 2-0-0

The K-Wings, who have won five straight road games, will conclude their four-game road trip here against the Vipers. Besides trying to extend their winning streak, forward Tyler Rennette will also try to extend his current point streak of eight games. The eight-game streak ties Rennette for the K-Wings season high.

Roanoke's loss to the K-Wings extended their winless streak to five games. The good news for the Vipers is that with Richmond's loss to Muskegon keeps them just a single point behind the RiverDogs for third place in the Eastern Division.

Flying High

With their win last night, the K-Wings continue to dominate the all-time series over the Roanoke Valley Vipers, who were formally the Port Huron Beacons. Kalamazoo is unbeaten in regulation in their last 13 games (12-0-1) over Roanoke Valley, which includes 11 straight victories. The last regulation win by the Vipers came on January 16, 2004 when they defeated Kalamazoo 6-3.

Eight Isn't Enough

Forward Tyler Rennette is currently on the eight-game point streak. The eight-game streak is the longest current streak by a K-Wings player and it also ties the K-Wings season long point streak, also held by Rennette.

Nearing 400

Forward Kory Karlander is closing in on a personal milestone. Karlander needs three more points to reach 400 for his career.

Road Warriors

Tonight ends a four-game road swing for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo, who is a perfect 3-0-0 on the current trip, is currently on a season high five-game road winning streak and unbeaten in regulation in their last six road contest (5-0-1).
