Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- In the second game of a big three-game week between division rivals, the Rockford IceHogs topped the Quad City Mallards 5-4 at the Rockford MetroCentre before 4,338 fans. The IceHogs held off another late Mallards rally to extend their unbeaten streak to nine games (6-0-3), tying the team season high.

The two teams traded goals in the first period. The Mallards capitalized first at 6:02 when winger Matt Radoslovich beat Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel. Rockford responded with a power play marker at 7:52 after Greg Barber knocked a tally by Jason Tapp. Quad City, however, regained the lead at 16:47 when rookie winger Anthony Blumer snuck his 12th marker of the season by Vogel. But Rockford wasn't held off the board long as rookie winger Robin Big Snake swiped in his 16th goal at 18:51 on the man advantage.

The second period belonged to Rockford. Rookie center Steve Yetman lit the lamp twice to give Rockford a 4-2 lead. Yetman's first came at 1:10 before he tipped in another at 7:28. Center Preston Mizzi later put Rockford ahead 5-2 with another power play goal, blasting home his 15th marker at 14:24. Mizzi also added assists on the Hogs first two power play goals.

But once again, Quad City didn't roll over and fought their way back into the game. Winger Thomas Clayton chopped the lead down to 5-3 at 10:46 with a Mallards power-play goal. Then defenseman Tom Galvin registered an unassisted goal at 15:51 to make it a one-goal game.

That was all Quad City could put together though, and Rockford held on for the 5-4 win. Vogel got another win making 31 saves, while Tapp was saddled with the loss after turning away 29 Rockford shots. The Hogs finished the night 3-for-5 on the power-play and held the Mallards to 1-for-8 on the advantage.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Jan. 7 vs. Missouri River Otters. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Otters renew acquaintances at the MetroCentre. The first 1,000 fans will receive an IceHogs Mouse Pad courtesy of Best Realty and FOX 39.
