
Trashers give up two short-handed goals in 4-2 loss

FRASER, MI--Former Trashers captain Brent Gretzky scored Motor City's first goal and added an assist as the Mechanics scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the second period to come from behind and defeat the Trasher s 4-2 on Friday night at The Garage.
Gretzky scored just 1:07 into the opening period as he knocked in a rebound past Jayme Platt following a Kyle Kos shot. The Trashers tied it a few minutes later as Justin Laverdiere wristed one by Rod Branch at the 6:03 mark.
The Trashers scored in the second period as Dave MacIsaac's power play goal gave Danbury a 2-1 lead at the 8:15 mark. However, Scott Dobbin and Kris Vernarsky scored shorthanded goals 36 seconds apart to give the Mechanics a 3-2 lead. Matt Smith added a power play goal at 18:59 to give Motor City a 4-2 advantage.
Platt stopped 28 of 32 shots as Danbury dropped their second straight game, while Rod Branch saved 35 of 37. Despite the loss, Danbury still has a one point lead in the UHL East Division after Adirondack's 2-1 shootout loss on Friday night.
The Trashers return home on Friday January 13th at 7:30pm against the Flint Generals after traveling to Motor City, Flint and Fort Wayne this weekend. Saturday's game at Flint is at 7:35pm.
