Countdown to Face-Off
October 22, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
After three preseason games the Kalamazoo Wings are ready to begin the 2005-06 season against the Port Huron Flags. Tonight will be the first time since 1980-81 season; a K-Wings team has battled a team from Port Huron named the Flags. In their IHL days, the K-Wings took the overall series against the Flags with a record of 34-32-9.
In the preseason, the revamped K-Wings proved to be more than just a defensive minded team, as the K-Wings put up 13 goals in just three preseason games. Kalamazoo possesses three lines of offensive firepower; however, they are still backed with a stingy defense and brilliant goaltending.
While the K-Wings will drop the puck for the first time tonight, the same can't be said for the Flags. Port Huron began their inaugural UHL season last night with a 5-4 shootout victory against the Danbury Trashers. Like the K-Wings, the Flags have an offensive arsenal led by Derrick Atkinson and Aaron Brand.
