Mechanics Lose In Shootout, Gain One Point

MOLINE, IL--The Motor City Mechanics record setting winning streak came to an end tonight at the MARK of the Quad Cities as the Quad City Mallards down the Mechanics 4-3 in a shootout, but still manage to get a point for the 14th straight game.

The Mechanics picked up where they left off from the night before in Missouri; scoring quickly and playing tough defensive hockey. Chris Gignac, Konstantin Kalmikov and Adam Edinger all put one in the net while goaltender Bill Ruggiero made the start in net stopping 31 of 34 shots.

Chris Gignac scored (1) on the power play at 6:08 to start the scoring in the first. After the Mallards scored to tie the game the Mechanics responded with an even strength goal by Adam Edinger (2) at 14:00 to take the 2-1 lead into the intermission.

The last Mechanics goal was tallied by Konstantin Kalmikov (1) at 19:21 of the second period and from there on out the Mallards rallied to score two unanswered goals to force the game into a shootout.

In the shootout the Mallards managed to beat Mechanics goaltender Bill Ruggiero twice while the lone Mechanics goal was tallied by Mike Ramsay.

For the second night in a row there were multiple point getters for the Mechanics. Greg Bullock tallied two points (2 assists), Edinger had two points (1 goal, 1 assist), Kalmikov had two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Kevin Hansen had one point (1 assist).

The final game of the three game road trip continues tomorrow afternoon when the Mechanics face the Rockford IceHogs at the Rockford MetroCentre; face-off is slated of an afternoon matinee at 3:05 p.m. CST.

The Mechanics return home on October 28th and 29th for an opening weekend celebration at the Great Lakes Sports City Superior Arena, A.K.A., "The Garage" on Utica Road in Fraser. Friday the Mechanics host the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30 p.m. on McDonalds Puck night with a special appearance by Ronald McDonald! Saturday October 29th the Mechanics host the Port Huron Flags at 7:30 p.m. All fans will receive a free magnet schedule courtesy of SVS Vision Optical Centers and kids can trick-or-treat with the Mechanics on the ice after the game.
