Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), took a tough loss at the Roanoke Civic Center Saturday night, losing by a score of 5-4 to even the weekend and season series with the Fort Wayne Komets at one win apiece.
The Vipers battled back, finding themselves at a 4-1 deficit before of the second period had even reached the halfway mark. Lance Galbraith scored first for the Komets just a minute and thirty-five seconds into the first period. New Viper acquisition Louis-Philippe "L.P." Martin, who was picked up by the team today after the release of Brendon Clark, fired a shot over the shoulder of Kevin St. Pierre off a pass from Roanoke Valley captain David Beauregard to even the score at one apiece at 9:42 of the first period. The Komets got two more goals past Vipers goaltender Jamie Hodson before the period ended, and Colin Chaulk added another before the three minute mark of the second.
The Vipers took control of the puck and the rest of the period after Chaulk's goal, as Beauregard took a shot off the stick of Mark Scott and put it past St. Pierre to cut Fort Wayne's lead to two goals. The Komets' Mark Smith scored next off a pass from Lance Galbraith, who was in the spotlight most of the night, putting up two goals and an assist against the Vipers. Roanoke followed with two more goals before the period would end from Josh Tataryn and rookie Alex Jerofejevs. Jerofejevs' goal, which came off assists from Scott and Beauregard, was the Latvia native's first career goal as a professional.
Both teams' defensive lines turned up their games in the third period, as both teams failed to add to the nine points they put on the board through the first two periods. Vipers Head Coach Jim Wiley sent an extra attacker on the ice for the final 31 seconds of the match, but to no avail as the Komets kept the puck away from their defensive zone.
The Vipers head out of the Valley for their first road trip of the season, beginning Friday in Richmond, going through Elmira on Saturday, and ending in Danbury on Sunday. They will return home to face the RiverDogs for the first time at the Roanoke Civic Center on Friday November 4th! Get your tickets today by calling (540) 345-PUCK!
