
Trashers drop season-opener as Flags come from behind to win in shootout

PORT HURON, MI--Jakko Callio's shootout goal gave the Port Huron Flags a 2-1 shootout edge and a 5-4 win over the Trashers on Friday night from McMorran Arena.
The Flags scored their franchise first goal to take a 1-0 lead as Derrick Atkinson netted the first of two goals on the night. However, the Trashers scored four unanswered goals between the first and second periods from Carlyle Lewis, Drew Omicioli, Mike Omicioli and David Hymovitz as they carried a 4-1 lead into the third period.
The Flags scored three power play goals on the night including a pair in the 3rd period. The Flags received goals from Shane Tomlinson and Brett Lutes with the man advantage before Atkinson's second goal of the night tied the game at 4-4.
Danbury's lone shootout goal was from J.M. Daoust, while Brian Felsner scored the other shootout goal to go with Callio's.
Scott Hay picks up the win in his UHL debut while Sly Daigle takes the shootout loss in his first game as a Trashers goaltender.
Danbury returns to the ice on Saturday night against Flint from Perani's Hockey World at 7:35pm with the ESPN 940 AM Radio pre-game show starting at 7:20.
