Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - When Kane County Cougars outfielder Travis Buck drove home Tommy Everidge in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday night against the Dragons at Elfstrom Stadium, it gave the Cougars a 7-6 win, moved them above .500 for the first time since July 26 and brought them within half a game of the second playoff spot in the Western Division.
The Cougars led 5-2 in the seventh when reliever Mike Mitchell allowed a two-run homer for a 5-4 game, then Dan Fyvie gave up two in the ninth to put Kane County behind, but Javier Herrera crushed a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to make it 6-6 and force bonus baseball. Tommy Everidge, who entered because a pinch-runner replaced Eddie Kim earlier in the game, walked against Dayton's Alexander Farfan to start the 11th. Buck's two-bagger rolled to the warning track in left-center, and Everidge scored all the way from first for the game-winner.
Kane County built the lead from the effort of Ryan Ruiz, who drove in two in the fourth for a 2-0 game and later turned a 3-2 lead into a 5-2 advantage with a two-run homer. The slugging second baseman drove in four runs for the first time this season.
Cougars starter Trent Peterson gave up two runs on five hits in five innings. He was in line for the victory until Dayton came back in the ninth. Jared Trout (4-5) notched the win after two excellent, extra-inning relief frames. Farfan (2-7) suffered the loss. The Cougars (23-22) look for the sweep Tuesday night at 6:30 CDT when Mike Rogers (5-7, 5.08) pitches against left-hander Camilo Vazquez (4-4, 5.19).
