Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars concluded the first part of their seven-game homestand by taking two out of three games from the Burlington Bees, thanks to a 4-1 win Friday night in front of 11,922 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Joe Piekarz tossed six solid innings for the victory, and Steve Kleen drove in two runs and extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight consecutive games.
Piekarz and Bees starter Carlos Rosa each worked a perfect first inning and escaped danger in the second and third before the Cougars broke through in the fourth. Anthony Recker walked and scored on an error, and Kleen brought home Jose Pineda with a groundout for a 2-0 game.
Burlington answered with its only run of the game in the fifth against Piekarz (4-3), who scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out two to snag the victory. The Cougars added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, one from Jeff Baisley's 15th home run of the year and another from Kleen's run-scoring single that plated Pineda.
Reliever Randy Rapp posted three scoreless innings to nail down his second save of the campaign and confirm the loss for Rosa (6-6).
The Cougars (13-9) welcome the Lansing Lugnuts to Geneva for a four-game series that begins Saturday night at 6 CDT. Trey Shields (6-8, 5.24) is scheduled to face Casey McKenzie (0-1, 2.03).
