Devil Rays get Whitewashed

Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release


The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays and the West Michigan Whitecaps played their last regular season game at C.O. Brown Stadium on Friday night. The Whitecaps were victorious by a score of 5-2. The Battle Creek franchise finishes with an all-time record against West Michigan of 90 wins and 100 losses.

Jake McGee got the start for the Devil Rays. McGee lasted 3.2 innings and gave up four hits, five runs with three earned, and he walked four caps. Jake struck out four batters to increase his Midwest League lead to 124 K's. He is now third in Minor League Baseball in strikeouts.

Eddie DeLaCruz came in for relieve work in the fourth inning. He went 2.1 frames and allowed one hit with one strikeout. Drew Bigda pitched the seventh and eighth with four K's and one hit against him. In the ninth inning Greg Dupas gave up a hit but had a pair of strikeouts.

The Whitecaps phenom, Cameron Maybin, collected a pair of doubles in his final game at C.O. Brown. West Michigan's skipper Matt Walbeck earned his 200th career victory as manager of the Whitecaps.

Burke Badenhop pitched a complete game victory for the Whitecaps. Badenhop's record now stands at 9-2 with a pair of complete games on the season.

Rhyne Hughes went 2-4 on the night with an RBI. J.T. Hall also picked up a couple of hits and a run scored in the contest. Matt Devins had his seven-game hit streak end with an 0-2 performance at the plate.

The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a four game set against the Kernels. They return home on Thursday, July 20th to square off against the Fort Wayne Wizards. Thursday's game is "Thirsty Thursday" where fans can get their favorite Pepsi fountain pop or draft beer for only $1. It is also "Charitable Union Night" at the ballpark. Fans can bring in new socks and underwear to donate to Charitable Union and they will receive a free ticket to any D-Rays home game.
